Thanks Hermine!

Tropical Storm Hermine just gave me the most harrowing 2+ hour drive ever.

We've been getting a lot of rain lately and I've joked about building an ark (because who doesn't during heavy rains?) but it wasn't that bad this morning, so I didn't think twice about heading to work.

Well, apparently I should have. "Work" being in the area where the storm hit more directly, which meant lots of flash floods and high water levels, including high water that closed off the road directly in front of my work. And three other roads I tried to use to get home once I realized that I couldn't get in to work. So a drive that takes 45 minutes on a heavy traffic day took me over an hour and a half. Nice, huh? Yeah, I was a big ball of stress.

Thankfully, the remains of Hermine shouldn't give us much more heavy rain at home. A little east of the house, though, looks like it is in for a bit more trouble. ("Home" is in the relatively clear section of the radar image, "Work" is a little to the east in an orange portion.) The flash flood watch at home expires in about four hours... Work-area's flash flood watch expires in twelve.

What an exciting day!

  1. Ooo, we are familiar with these conditions, please to put water wings in car when you travel, and do so carefully! Love, Claudia
