Dan and I have both been productive with our hobbies lately. First off, I finally felt good enough to finished my knit hat. And yes, I am wearing a tank top while I model it! We've had one or two days where the low has been around or below freezing, but most days have been in the mid-70s. So yeah, I probably won't be wearing my hat (or mittens) any time soon, but Dan has promised (threatened?) a trip to a cold climate so I can use them.
Hmm, maybe I need to knit something tropical? But I did enjoy knitting the hat and absolutely adore the thick double brim. I kind of love it!
For Dan's hobby news, this weekend he bottled his pumpkin beer, which he's calling Fairytale Punkin' Ale (since it is with a Fairytale pumpkin and styled after Dogfish Head's Punkin' Ale), and now it is all set for some in-bottle conditioning. It still has to condition for a couple of weeks but it should be ready for sampling by Thanksgiving. His other beer (which he is calling Absolution Ale since that's what the recipe called it) has to bottle condition for at least 6 months, so that one won't be ready for tasting for a while. I'm not sure what is up next for Dan and his beer. Honestly, he's got a lot of it - not just what he's made but stuff he's bought recently (a lot of breweries are doing their special winter brews) so his next goal should probably be drinking beer. As for me and knitting, I'm making another mitten set. It's been bugging me that my mitten set was mismatched - not only was one rather green and the other had no green, but the tension was different when I knit them, making them different sizes! So I'm doing two more mittens and am attempting to match one of the new mittens to the larger, non-green mitten and the other to the smaller, green mitten.
After that, Dan has requested a hat and I want to learn how to do colorwork on a pair of fingerless mittens so those will be up next once the yarn order I made late last week comes in. Also, I want to make a little pillow for my living room chair. I almost always need a little pillow behind my lower back when sitting and the couch's small accent pillow is just a little too fluffy.
Yeah, one or two things to do! But I can't help it - I'm totally in love with knitting!

I am so happy you love knitting, after all the times you extolled the virtues of crochet, you have a place in your heart for multiple needles! Your work is wonderful. If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed the mittens didn't match exactly. As to a trip to a colder climate, you know our door can open at any time (I'd say it's always open, but then the furnace would have to run alot and the cats would get out..)and we'd love to see you if you are here or passing through. Dan's beer reminds me so much of my dad making beer in the basement. Then one day, it began to blow all the caps off! Oh well. Love you lots and lots, Claudia
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious about the blown off bottle caps! Hopefully Dan's won't do that but we have discussed the possibility, especially in regards to where to store the bottles while they are conditioning. The risk makes it an adventure, I think! :)
ReplyDeleteAs for knitting, I do love it. I still love crochet - I think it is still best for doilies and roughly equal for things like afghans. But the material that knitting creates is just so pretty and has a lovely feel. I adore it! :) And I'm sure I'll get a chance to test out my warm knit goodies during a visit to y'all in the frigid mid-west!
