Poor Doodle

A little over a month ago, we had some issues with Happy and an exploding anal sac. With cats, the problem doesn't typically reoccur since, as the abscess heals, the anal glad closes up which prevents it from being a functioning anal gland.

Notice I said "typically".

So guess what happened today?

Boom.

Yeah. Happy's got another abscessed anal gland. Actually, it's the same one. The abscess is a lot smaller than before so I think the gland did close up a lot when it healed from the last abscess, just not enough to prevent it from being a still functioning (and malfunctioning) gland.

Dan and I noticed her rear swelling again last night and today we discussed the possibility of an emergency vet trip to see if we could fix the problem before it did the open wound thing again. I was leaning towards the emergency vet and asked Dan to check out her swelling to see if he concurred. When he checked, he noticed it had just burst. What timing.

I had already put in a call to the vet last night to make an appointment with them when the office opened up again. The urgency is slightly less now but I plan to take her in tomorrow to get her flushed out and shot with an antibiotic. And maybe a pain killer because she's pretty grumpy right now (not that I blame her).

Poor Doodle. She's had a run of bad luck with her rear end lately.
