You need to know this....

Okay, first off, I have delayed posting about Dan's surgery from last Friday because I have no pictures. I am disappointed that I forgot my camera and thus missed out on the classic picture of Dan's feet pre-op. His right foot had "No" written on it and his left had "Yes". It was really funny to see, but on paper, not so much. *Sigh*

The docs removed the bone spur and cut out the ganglion thing, which actually turns out not to be a ganglion but rather gout. They sent it to a lab to check so we'll know soon (I guess). And yes, I laughed when the doctor told me. I mean, come on! It's GOUT, people! It's still funny!

The Gout

Anyway, Dan is doing good. His toe is all wrapped up and he's wearing a little boot thing which looks really uncomfortable but better than closed-toed shoes. He's got a check up on Monday so maybe the boot can come off (though maybe not). Until then, his new name is Gimpy. He even answers to it.

But now on to the important stuff - something to make you smile. And before you ask, yes, I am a dork and that is why I'm posting these (number 7 and 8 are my favs).

Updates - on another site

Okay, it took me a year and a half, but I actually did some updates on the Crook Family Webpage. I've still got a lot of blanks to fill in, but hey, at least it is progress.

Crook Family Website

Can someone help with this?

I'm trying to figure out what this white stuff is that is coating our driveway, sidewalk, road, roof and currently falling from the sky.

I think I heard the radio news said something about this thing called "snow", but that doesn't seem right so I'm sure that can't be it.

Any ideas as to what it could be?

This white stuff keeps falling and sticking. Hmm, not fun.

Oh, needless to say, I am stuck at home today. No work for me today. Bah. Well, at least that means I get a 2 day work week.

Ice Ice Baby

(Now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all day. Anyway.... )

We are currently having some ice issues at our house. As in, the outside world is covered in it. As of 1:15pm, we still had icicles on our bushes outside and a nice sheet of ice on our windows in the back.

Our front bushes with some big ole icicles.
And yes, the green wires are our Christmas lights - they are still up.
That would be Dan's doing. I think he's forgotten about them.

Bitty trying desperately to see through the ice on our bathroom window.

I'm assuming our oleander and apple trees are still covered in a nice layer of ice like they were last night, but since I can't see through the windows to the back yard and no way am I walking outside today unless I have to, I don't think I will be able to confirm that.

It is a good thing that I was off of work for MLK day today. I wouldn't have been able to make it to work with this weather. Of course, things have been melting some, but it's supposed to freeze again tonight. And tomorrow isn't a work holiday. Considering that Fidelity doesn't close, I'm thinking I'll be taking a PTO day tomorrow so I don't end up with a crunched up car.

Of course, according to the Weather Channel, we shouldn't expect a low above freezing until Saturday. So looks like at some point I'll be driving on some ice again. Booooo!

Duck's Season

Guess where Dan and I were tonight? Watching the Ducks kick some Dallas rear, that's where! WOO HOO!

Face-off at center ice

The Ducks took on the Stars and, even with the Ducks missing so many big players, they managed to pull out a win. It wasn't the prettiest game - the Ducks seemed like they thought they were still in warm up during the first period - but it was a whole lot prettier for the Ducks than the Stars.

Pretty for the Ducks, not so much for the Stars

For once, Dan and I weren't the only ones cheering for the visiting team, either. There was a group of 6 of us all sitting together. And let me tell ya, it was nice to not be the only one standing and cheering when the Ducks put another biscuit in the basket (lol - love that phrase!) And we got to cheer a lot - Teemu Selanne got a hat trick and the three stars of the game were all Ducks players (Teemu, Andy Mac, and Cappy Scott Neidermayer). I just love it when the three stars are from the visiting team.

On a sadder note, though, my curse continues to hold - Giguere was not in net.

Not Giguere

Giguere's out with a groin injury so I was once again unable to see my favorite Duck. Boo. But he should be back in the line up after the All-Star break so I'm hoping to see him then. Bryzgalov was in net and did a decent job. He seemed a bit out of position a few times, but whatever. He only let one goal in so I'm happy.

All in all, a very fun night. And it is midnight so I'm going to bed!

ETA: This picture is from Yahoo!Sports but it makes me laugh so I had to post it:

Are You Disturbed?

Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed to close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst for the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars.

We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope and love.

Merry Cocoa, 2007!

Okay, so I have to do some post catch-up. So without further ado, stuff:

Merry Christmas!
I hope everyone had a merry Christmas. We had a great one. My parents and came and spent a couple of nights with us. Dan got a little sick Christmas eve night (he's the only person I know that has a cold that lasts one day), so we missed the candlelight service, but we still had a great Christmas weekend with my family.

Of course, lots of goodies were exchanged. Dan got me a Cricut personal cutting system for my scrapbooking which is way cool. I finally picked up a glue pen today (I think the kitties ate my old one) so I was able to finish my first page using the Cricut.

The Bitty Box Page

I also got a wonderful necklace from my mother-in-law. It's a James Avery piece out of their Descending Doves series.

Floating Dove

Isn't it gorgeous? It's a different length from my Serenity Cross that Dan got me when I was baptised. I'm debating whether or not I am cool enough to pull off wearing both at once.

Tubeless Cocoa!
Cocoa's tube is out! YAY!

No more tube - or cone!

Cocoa went to the vet last Friday to get her tube out. Now she has a few stitches - some in her tummy where they had to cut her open to remove then tube, and then some a little further up her side where the tube was put in. She'll got back to the vet in about a week to get the stitches out. Then we just have to wait for her hair to grow back and she'll be back to normal. YAY!

Happy New Year!
I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. Happy 2007!

Looking back on my goals for 2006, I only managed to accomplish one of them: reading the bible. I'm thinking that one goal a year is the best I can do, so I'm only setting one goal for this year. My goal for 2007 is to complete my 1996 - 1997 Japan Scrapbook. I'm actually over 1/2 way through it, so this one is totally doable.

At some point in the next month, I'm hoping to update my Books page to list some of my favorite books of 2006, but I'd also like to update the Crook Reunion website and that hasn't happened in a while, so we will see!

Prime Real Estate
Okay, this is just too cute, I had to post it.

Three Times the Kitty Love

Chloe was the first in my lap, then Gidget and eventually Cocoa. It was lovely, if a bit crowded.

Everyone have a prosperous and successful 2007!
