I am so happy for my Ducks - they currently lead the Pacific Division by 6 points (104 to the Stars 98), they are number 2 spot in the Western Conference (only 1 point behind Detroit), and number 4 in the entire league (with the top three teams (Buffalo, Detroit and Nashville) all having 105 points). How exciting is that???? Oh, and with all that, of course they have clinched a playoff spot.
Two of the remaining 4 games the Ducks have are against division rivals the Sharks and the Stars. Those should be interesting games (I'm hoping we can go to the one against Dallas but it's not looking like it).
I'm so excited for my Ducks. I hope this is their year. I still remember last year when their playoff run was stopped in the conference finals by the Oilers. I was watching game 5 in my hotel room in Hawaii (yes, I abandoned the beach to watch hockey). I actually teared up when (then still the Mighty) Ducks lost. Okay, I more than just teared up. But I wasn't sobbing or anything. What can I say? I was invested in my team. I still am.
Yes, I miss Fedoruk. But I've become fond of Thorton and Parros - well, more Parros's mustache than Parros himself.
And while I still can't seem to remember that May and Huskins are Ducks, I don't even have to see their numbers to recognize Pronger, Kunitz and Getzlaf.
The Parros 'Stache
And let's not forget Giguere.
Okay, sorry - I'm back. My inner puck bunny took over.
One other thing I wanted to mention before I cage my inner hockey nerd up again (at least until the game against the Blues tomorrow) - have I mentioned that the Ducks are a freakin' tough team? I am proud to say, the Ducks not only kick butt in winning games, they just flat out kick butt. They have the most penalty minutes in the league with 1,360.
Sure, the Phoenix Coyotes are right behind them with 1,306 minutes, but honestly, the 'Yotes suck (I mean really suck - last in the division and 29 out of 30 in the league) so of course they are going to get a lot of minutes. If they can't beat you with goals, they are just going to beat you.
Of course, not all the penalty minutes are from fights. Lots of hugging (or as the refs like to call it, holding, but I think "hugging" sounds friendlier, yes?), tripping and what not. But still, it I like that the Ducks have the most penalty minutes in the league. And you have to think, they must have a pretty good penalty kill if they can get that many minutes and still swing number 2 in the conference.
Number 2, Baby!!
