Last night, Dan and I went to a Stars hockey game. Such fun! Actually, it was a pretty crappy game until the last 15 minutes or so. Both teams were playing like girls. Lots of playground-esque pushing going on, no real checks. Bad puck handling and neither Dan nor I could believe that Turco wasn't pulled from the game.
Game-age
Even if the Sharks hadn't started racking up goals at the end (3 goals in less than 4 minutes - which is what made the game really fun), I still enjoyed myself. Hey, bad live hockey is still live hockey. And even bad hockey isn't that bad when the tickets are free.
All in all, somewhat of a slaughter, at least for the 3rd period
If that weren't enough, though, there was the added bonus of Todd Fedoruk, aka Fridge, now being on the Stars.
On the bench
Fedoruk is a former Duck that was traded to the Flyers during the '05-'06 season after his cheekbone was broken during a fight with Boogaard (who is a dirty word for that and so many other reasons). Anyway, he's a Star now and I spent a decent amount of the game camera-stalking him. He even had one fight that was sadly very short and ended up with Fedoruk losing his footing and falling flat on his back. I still love him, though.
Fedoruk's not just a fighter - he touched the puck a few times, I swear!
Well, Dan was harrasing me yesterday about my webpage being so out of date (the non-blog part anyway), so I did a tiny bit of updating. Just a few tweaks on the Children page and I guess I have completed Princess's page. Still need to do more updates, but I will eventually. One day.
What is TMFP, you ask? That is my new pretty red laptop. And I lurve it! It's so fast! And pretty! And what does TMFP stand for, you ask? The *something* Princess. Why, you ask? There is a Avril Lavigne song, Girlfriend that has a line "I'm the MF princess" and that line just tickles me so much. Dan says I need a shirt that says that, but I would never wear it out in public. So I named my computer that.
Hey, at least I didn't name it after a Dune character like some people that will remain nameless *coughDancough*.
Anyway, everyone is really enjoying my computer. Me because it is lovely; Dan because I am less likely to become a Luddite with a working computer; the kitties because they got a new box. And they look so cute in that darn box that I can't find it within myself to throw it away. I've tried to twice but someone is always in it and looking so cute, I have to take a picture.
Shh, don't tell Cocoa she doesn't fit.
Bitty tried to do the "normal" kitty box thing...
...then she realized the smaller compartment was a better fit.
Chloe takes the traditional route.
Nibby shakes things up.
And Because I Can More scrapbooking stuff - aren't you thrilled? Shaddup. My blog, my pointless posts. Now look at the pretty:
I've noticed a sports theme with my scrapbooking lately...
The text is an edited version of what I posted on my blog for that event, which can be found here.
New scrapbooking page done - whee! Just a one pager, this time. I got a new Cricut cartridge a little bit ago, Opposites Attract, and used that for the title bits. I'm really very happy with the page. I think it turned out nice - especially since finding hockey-related scrapbooking stuff was so hard.
Ducks vs Stars Layout
The text reads:
It’s always fun to watch the Ducks kick some butt - it’s even more fun when it’s live! That’s exactly what Dan and I got to do when the Ducks came to town – beating the Stars 5 to 1.
For once, Dan & I weren't the only ones cheering for the visiting team, either. We were part of a group of 6 Ducks fans sitting together. It was nice to not be the only one cheering for the Ducks - and there was a lot to cheer about: Teemu Selanne got a hat trick & the three stars of the game were all Ducks players (Teemu, Andy Mac, and Cappy Scott Neidermayer).
The only bad news of the night was that Giguere was out with a groin injury so I was once again unable to see my favorite Duck at a live game.
I really like this page. Yay!
But speaking of other things I like, I got a new pretty today!
My pretty new toy
Ooooooh! I'm so excited! Dan's setting it up right now and getting it all ready for me. It is currently the fastest machine in the house. And it's so pretty! Yay!
Well, at least I think this post contains interesting stuff. Readers might not agree. Read it anyway.
Cattle-goodness First off, last weekend Dan and I went with my parents to a Ranch Rodeo.
Dan, Mom and Dad at the Ranch Rodeo
A Ranch Rodeo is different from a Professional Rodeo in a good number of ways but I think just a few of them are worth mentioning (though maybe if I knew more about any type of rodeo, I would think others more worth mentioning). First off, there are different events. For instance, instead of Team Roping, Ranch Rodeos have Team Doctoring. The two events are similar in what is required, however the Team Doctoring is directly based on what happens on an actual ranch when there is sick cattle.
The Team Doctoring Event
Secondly, there are some events that are the same, but they have different rules. There is Bronc Riding in both Ranch and Professional Rodeos, but in the Ranch version of the event, the riders are allowed to grab on with both hands and can hang on to the saddle. It more copies the event of a rider being on a runaway horse.
Lastly, all participants in the rodeo must be employed on a working ranch. I'm not sure how long a participant is required to work at the ranch before they are eligible for the rodeo, but it is my understanding that there is some sort of limitation to prevent professional rodeo cowboys from hiring on at a ranch short term just to enter and win the rodeo.
Anyway, the rodeo was really fun. The last event was probably the most entertaining: Wild Cow Milking. Yes, seriously. The video will take a bit to load, but give it a shot. It's, well, weird.
There was also Bronc Riding, Team Doctoring, Calf Branding (don't worry - chalk dust was used), and Team Penning. And a good time was had by all!

Health-goodness Well, after being back at work for just a hair under 2 months, I thought everything was basically over, but it was not to be so. On Monday I was informed by HR in Chicago that I was to go back on leave effective immediately. It has to do with the pain I still get in my side when I overdo it. Which isn't a problem for my actual job, but is a problem for my job duties on paper. So I'm on forced leave and had to open up another short-term disability claim. Hopefully that will be approved soon. No idea how long this is going to take.
I had to go to the doctor to get a note for the short-term disability leave and he prescribed a patch - Licoderm, I think it is - to help numb the pain. Well, yeah, it numbs the pain, but then I push too hard and right now I have an ice pack wrapped around my side because of bad cramps. Looks like I need to talk to my GI that did the surgery (as suggested by my GP). Sigh. Is being healthy too much to ask?
Well, that's all for now. I'm sure there will be more later, who know. Until then, enjoy the Wild Cow Milking video up above again. And be thankful you don't have to do that.
Okay, I haven't blogged too recently, though there are lots of things going on. I'll post soon and share about what happened last weekend, which include some wild cow milking and also let folks know about being made to go out on leave.
Until then, occupy yourself with the below link and see who you should vote for in the 08 election. Then share your results by posting in the comments. Please? You know you want to. Find Your Candidate for the 2008 Election
I had a 95.45% match with Colorado Rep Tom Tancredo. I've heard of him, but that's it.
