It is winter here, and while Texas winters don't get that cold, they still get plenty cold for me. Normally during the winter, Dan and I use our electric blanket. It's a lovely thing that makes for a nicely warmed bed at night. But it is old and made of some sort of synthetic material that sort of creeps me out if it touches my skin. So last week we decided to order a heated mattress pad. I had heard good things about them so I wanted to try one. (Plus, we got it from Costco so we knew we could return it easily if it wasn't awesome.)
It came in on Monday and... it is awesome. I'm actually almost sad that the weather has warmed up a bit! Even on the lowest setting it makes the bed toasty warm and there are no cold spots like I'd sometimes get on the electric blanket. (Apparently in the fight of electric blanket versus my cold feet, cold feet win. Not with the heated mattress pad though!) It's just this great, cozy warmth from heat to toe. Totally fantastic.
Anyway, totally random post but the heated mattress pad really is so awesome that I had to share. So if you've been thinking about getting one, do it!
Oh I might have to give that a try... I bundle up under quilts and crocheted afghans. Do you keep it on all night?

I'm ordering the Hiya Hiya Sharp (large set.) Today is the first day they've been back in stock, at the online store where I shop. They were sold out. I did a happy squee and instantly put them in my cart. Of course this means I can now knit my Sylvi cardigan... Ok, technically I could, since I have Knit Picks needles, but I haven't used them since receiving my Hiya Hiyas.
OMG! I got my large set in last week and I squeed so much! They are fantastic! I got some cable connectors and converters, too (because I find the small set of connectors I had supremely useful). I just love the set so much! I think I'm addicted to HH. I keep stalking their 9" circs and DPNs.
DeleteAs for the heated mattress pad, we keep it on all night. It does have a 10-hour automatic shut off timer, just in case I forget to turn it off in the morning. It's kind of wild because when it is on, the pad doesn't feel warm to the touch but once you are laying on it and have covers over you, it's so cozy! And I really like not having the added weight of additional blankets. Sometimes that hurts my feet.
I bet the heated mattress pad has increased the bed population of kitties.

They are certainly enjoying it, too! Gidget doesn't want to leave!
DeleteI finally caved and purchased a heated mattress pad. It's been a bit cold here, -13 below on some days and the blankets weren't enough! We mainly use a wood stove in our home. Of course last week, I purchased the mattress pad when it was 'warm' about 40 F and while I didn't really need to use it, I did try it out.
ReplyDeleteTonight it'll be in single digits so I plan to turn on the mattress pad. Mine has 10 settings like yours. I purchased the Sunbeam Vertical Quilted Heated Mattress Pad/
That's crazy cold! I hope the mattress pad has helped keep you toasty!
